Stamped Wood Slice Ornaments!

I went to a leader weekend treat this past September and the first night they had many different outdoor crafts that you could do with your troop. My favorite craft was stamping the wood slices and turning them into lanyards. It was such an easy craft to do and it turned out so pretty, I knew I wanted to do this with our troop.

Ornaments were the perfect way to incorporate this into a keepsake they can keep for years to come!!

Indiana Dunes State Park #GSLOVESPARKS

Sometimes the spontaneous adventures that are the most memorable.

This past Sunday we had an impromptu trip. In honor of Stranger Things season 3, we packed our bags and headed to Indiana…lol JK but man wasn’t the season finale a tear-jerker? We were looking for some fun to fill our Sunday. Coincidentally, it happened to be Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend!!

This wasn’t a planned out day, especially since we slept in that day. Two hours later, after a quick stop at McDonald’s for on the go breakfast and Subway for afternoon sandwiches, we were packed up and entering the Indiana Dunes State Park and headed towards the beach!!!

The weather was perfect. Although the thermostat read 90, with the breeze off of Lake Michigan, it feel beautiful and relaxing. The beach was packed but there are perks to going later in the afternoon. At that time the early morning peeps started to leave and we found a spot easily right next to the water.

Most importantly, we had a ton of fun. I’m so glad we went. Usually this type of thing needs to be planned at least a day in advance but it turned out to be so much wonderful!!

End of the year Surveys

Now is the time to send out the troop feedback survey. Why do I send out a survey? I like to know how I’m doing and if i’m meeting the expectations of girls in our troop. It also allows me to see if the parents expectations and goals are aligned with the troops. Every girl is unique and every troop is different. The survey allows me to see where girl’s interests might have changed and better plan for the following year.

Resources and Ideas for Space Badges

We have a troop that consists of 4 daisies, 6 brownies, and 11 juniors. It’s a healthy size troop and while our meeting room perfectly accommodates us, working as a large group on one activity at a time is never successful. That’s when attention issues surface at their finest and girls get bored. A solution to this problem is breaking the troop up into smaller groups and having them rotate activities. You might want to incorporate patrols into your troop organization for this reason.

Veteran's Day Ideas for Your Troop

This year our troop is able to participate in a flag ceremony at their school’s Veteran’s Day assembly! The girls were pretty excited to be a part of the event as scouts! If your school does a similar ceremony at your school, you might want to inquire about finding ways the girls can participate.

Mighty Girls Halloween

This year was the most difficult in finding the right costumes! The girls started out with other ideas. Even searching a month in advance, finding their costumes in the right sizes, proved to be a challenge. Bella wanted to be a Rockford Peach but I couldn’t find one in a tween size and honestly didn’t have the time to sew one. Ryleigh has been asking for months to be Neytiri from Avatar but the only kids medium costume came at a $200 price tag!

When their first picks weren’t working out, we’d turn to their second choices……
