Daisy Scout: Respect Myself and Others

gloria

You asked for more Daisy petal resources and that is what I'm here to give!

We worked on our Gloria Petal (Respect myself and others) while completing our 3 Cheers for Animals journey. For this adventure the girls participated in a yoga class. There is a yoga studio in our area that specifically has Girl Scout programs that are tailored to this badge! It was a small flat rate for the whole thing so I totally felt like it was a steal! I highly encourage you to search around your community for similar scout programs... there are many you might not be aware of!

If you don't have the financial resources to take a yoga class, you can always get a kids yoga video to use in home instead.

What I loved is that they not only learned about self care but also about respecting others of different religious beliefs. It wasn't even part of the program but one of the girls had asked about the wall hanging (middle picture). The instructor was unsure how to respond at first (in fear of offending) but explained it perfectly.

Yoga is not a religion, it's a practice in which "all paths lead to Yoga = union of the soul to God" whichever God you believe in.

The girls learned breathing techniques by opening up their lungs with a fun toy(first picture). They also talked about nutrition and the importance of keeping our bodies healthy.

My favorite is when they learned the sun salutation and practiced the tree pose together. This really fostered team work with their Girl Scout Sisters!

Other ideas....

  • Decorate a frame (I've seen dollar tree frames and hot glued colorful jewels)
  • I am self Portraits (I've seen this done with the mirrors too)
We also did this as part of the 3 Cheers for Animals Journey

  • Balance meal menu
  • Etiquette and manners tea party
  • create an anti-bully poster or lead an anti-bully campaign
  • Have an older Girl Scout come in to speak and talk about self care.
