The Best Gift for the Baking Girl Scout!

Have you seen it yet?  We nearly lost it when we saw it in Target.

It's the new Girl Scouts Easy Bake Oven!

For all of your mini chefs or bakers out there this has to be the perfect gift. When I was little I had my own easy bake oven and it was so much fun. I'm mean, really, who did have one?

Valentine Canvas Paintings

Who loves a girl's craft night? I do, I do!!! A couple weeks ago I indulged in a much needed crafting girl's night. I love doing crafts and it's much more fun when you are with someone. My friend

Denise

joined me in the fun! We went the Valentines decoration route for this craft evening.

Originally, I had much smaller canvases purchased for this project but my little girls were jealous and I didn't want them to feel left out.... or whining the whole evening. I already had these larger canvases stored in the closet, so I gave the girls the smaller ones and I opted for the larger.

These were both done with a free hand. Okay, maybe those diamonds were traced from a cut out but the chevron and heart were definitely free hand.  If you can notice the heart shape is slightly off and not centered... I'm my own critic.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint (Black, metallic gold and pink)

Pencil

Gold glitter

Rose pink glitter (this glitter was awesome)

Mod Podge

The

love

and the heart are coated in glitter. I first painted the lettering and the heart. Once it was dry, I went over it with the Mod Podge and sprinkled the glitter all over. It was messy! I softly jiggled the canvas around to make sure the glitter covered all the area and emptied out the excess glitter onto a piece of paper.

I really liked the way theses pieces looked on the fireplace mantel. I do think the smaller canvases would have worked a little better but it was worth it when the little ones were so excited to be participating in the crafts. Happy Valentines Day!

Mocktails and an easy DIY for New Year's Eve

Just because you're not drinking alcohol during this holiday season, there is no reason to not partake in some bubbly or fun festive drinks! What's even better is having a fun sparkly drink stirrer to go with your favorite mocktail.

Pink Fizzy

Ingredients

Pink Lemonade (I used the Organic Trader Joe's kind)

Ginger Ale

Frozen fruit (blueberries are shown in the picture)

I used a 50/50 ratio between the pink lemonade and ginger ale.

Add your frozen fruit for a garnish and to keep it cold.

Sparkly Stir Pick

long wooden skewer

sparkle poms (comes in assorted sizes. I used a 1/2 inch pom)

You can hot glue the pom pom on to the dull end of the skewer. This would be the most efficient method to keep the pom in place.

Or

You can poke the skewer with the sharp end through the pom pom and slide it to the other end. Be careful not to poke yourself!

*you can also use pom poms on tooth picks for festive hors d'oeuvres.

What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink?

Girl Scout Daisies Holiday Meeting: Ornament Making

Happy Holidays!!!!

We had our 5th meeting of the year this past week. I wanted to keep it low key as it's close to the holidays but also have some fun!

We opened up the meeting as usual in our Daisy Circle. We recapped on our Cookie Goals from last meeting and said the Girl Scout Promise and practiced the Girl Scout Law. Then we went straight into the fun activities!

Girl Scout Daisy Ornament

What you need:

Green pipe cleaners

Green and White pony beads

Blue flower bead

ribbon to hang on the tree

hole puncher

Print out for your daisy troop.You can download the publisher file I created here:

Daisy Ornament Tag

I set out a couple of plates with both the white and green pony beads. I handed each girl a blue bead and myself and a couple of adults helped the girls string the beads on the green pipe cleaners.

Once the girls had the desired number of beads (15 on each side worked best) we twisted the pipe cleaners and trimmed the edges. I twisted them a couple of times to ensure they would stay.

Then you string the ribbon around the twisted area and make a knot.

Slide the hole punched tag through the ribbon and make another knot to keep it in place.

Lastly, make another knot at the ends to create a hoop that can allow the ornament to hang on the tree.

What do ya think?

Our second activity we decorated snowflake sugar cookies with white icing and blue shining sprinkles. I put out a couple of ramekins of different toppings through out the table and we passed around the bag of icing to each girl. I would have liked to have another bag of icing to speed up the process as we have ten girls but surprisingly the girls were pretty patient.

The girls had so much fun doing these two activities and it took up the full hour for the meeting. We also played some festive music in good party fashion. You can serve snacks or cookies and milk. We did not because our meetings are in the evenings and as parents voted it was best not to feed them that late.

Minnie Mouse Costume!

Halloween is coming up and I like to start thinking about things early... even thought they don't get done until the last minute. I'm a big planner but not executer. I love seeing homemade costumes, this is the heart of what dressing up is about.

My daughter loves Minnie Mouse, how could she not? We are such a Disney family!
I thought it would be cute to make a Minnie Mouse inspired petti skirt! Yeah, great idea, but seeing as how I have never attempted to make a petti skirt before, I thought I might be biting off more then I could chew.

So last weekend we caved and took a trip to the disney store!!!!

I fell in LOVE with these shoes and Bella did too!! She is a shoe diva! However, the minnie costume we chose was pink and these wouldn't match. That's not to say that she won't get them later.
Classic Minnie Mouse Shoes for Girls
So instead we fell in love with these!!
Ballet Flat Minnie Mouse Shoes for Girls
Minnie Mouse Costume for Baby and Toddler Girls
We got this costume with the matching Minnie Ears!
She was very excited to put on her costume when we got home!!!
She threw a fit when I made her take it off.

Maybe I will get around to making the minnie pettie skirt someday.

New year resolutions a little late

There are so many posts that I started this past month that I never finished, or by the time it was I didn't feel as excited about it. It has been so busy.

December was busy and the Holiday's were pleasent.

The start of January I tried Martha Stewart's Action Plan and lasted 4 days. The light food based detox took all of my energy away from me. I decided to come up with my own plan that I felt was obtainable. This year I am really serious about my resolutions and have thought out long and hard about what they are. I'm committed to improving! I'm exhausted with the job hunt and the constant rejection of the business world. I think I'm gonna try something different.

My new year resolutions...
Lose 55 pounds (5 pounds per month)... so far I have lost 4 this month!!!

Be much more organized and on time with house duties... On Jan. 2nd I went through the entire house, cleaned and organized. I got rid of so much clutter and a massive pile for donations!

Give more then I recieve... the donations

Be more confident and assertive with myself. I am capable! I've already improved on this one!! Woo Hoo!

Focus on activities that make me happy, crafting!

Be more Eco and earth friendly on a daily basis.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's a pretty long list, but I've been working on implementing all of them on a daily basis.
I think this year will be my year!
All I want for xmas is an electronic diary!
Last night Luis and I were looking through the Internet at possible Christmas gifts for our nieces and nephew. My one niece is 9 years old and is beyond her year of playing with dolls and Barbie's. She is very artistic and loves to draw, that's how I was at that age. So I began thinking of what I liked when I was nine. All I could remember wishing for was a Tiger electronic diary. Even now as I write this it makes me giggle. We began searching the Internet for one as Luis insisted on reminding me of how school girlish I was acting.
Me: "They have to have electronic diaries, they are the coolest thing how could they just get rid of them."
Luis:"Because today we have the Internet and all sorts of other cool electronics."
As if I had been blasted to the past!I guess he is right, we have cooler things now that children are used to. They have their own cell phones, with high speed Internet and IM.
I had one like this!
This time of year really brings out the kid in me. It reminds me of all the toys we had at that age and almost allows us to be a kid again. What types of things were you interested as a kid?
Thank you for the holiday season.
I woke up this morning, well Bella woke me up this morning at 5:30. It seems she is waking up earlier and earlier. I looked out the window and it had snowed over night. It reminded me of the days when I was a child and I would hope so bad that it would snow so we could go sledding. In the mornings I would hop out of bed and like a fluffy blanket there it would be! I got that same childhood feeling again this morning despite the time. I can't wait to get our snow suits on and have a snowball fight!
