Disney World Trip 2020: Part 1 (swimming at Old Key West Resort Epcot Animal Kingdom)

I’m so far behind on everything I set out to do in 2020, which makes no sense considering how much time I’ve been sitting at home! January was a huge month for us. We were just getting over a horrendous virus, pretty sure it was covid, and our weekends were jam packed with Girl Scout winter ski camps and our family trip to Walt Disney World. I finally managed to get all the videos we shot on our trip and here is part 1 of our Disney vacation! We stayed at the Old Key West Resort and this video highlights our park days at Epcot and Animal Kingdom!

Indiana Dunes State Park #GSLOVESPARKS

Sometimes the spontaneous adventures that are the most memorable.

This past Sunday we had an impromptu trip. In honor of Stranger Things season 3, we packed our bags and headed to Indiana…lol JK but man wasn’t the season finale a tear-jerker? We were looking for some fun to fill our Sunday. Coincidentally, it happened to be Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend!!

This wasn’t a planned out day, especially since we slept in that day. Two hours later, after a quick stop at McDonald’s for on the go breakfast and Subway for afternoon sandwiches, we were packed up and entering the Indiana Dunes State Park and headed towards the beach!!!

The weather was perfect. Although the thermostat read 90, with the breeze off of Lake Michigan, it feel beautiful and relaxing. The beach was packed but there are perks to going later in the afternoon. At that time the early morning peeps started to leave and we found a spot easily right next to the water.

Most importantly, we had a ton of fun. I’m so glad we went. Usually this type of thing needs to be planned at least a day in advance but it turned out to be so much wonderful!!

Mighty Girls Halloween

This year was the most difficult in finding the right costumes! The girls started out with other ideas. Even searching a month in advance, finding their costumes in the right sizes, proved to be a challenge. Bella wanted to be a Rockford Peach but I couldn’t find one in a tween size and honestly didn’t have the time to sew one. Ryleigh has been asking for months to be Neytiri from Avatar but the only kids medium costume came at a $200 price tag!

When their first picks weren’t working out, we’d turn to their second choices……

Camping @ Sleeping Bear Dunes Part 1: Beach and Cherry Republic

The drive took 8 hours from the Chicago area. Google maps says it takes 5.5 but we were towing our camper. We also had a trailer tire blow out when we were just an hour from the campgrounds.

Scout Overnight @ Brookfield Zoo

Over labor day weekend our scout troop reaped the benefits of their goal setting skills and hard earned cookie money to enjoy a night at the Brookfield Zoo! It seemed like a long time coming as the cookie season ended back in March but we had to the buy the tickets so early because it sells out fast! The evening and morning program was very well planned and packed with a lot of activities. Despite a few hiccups, our troop had an amazing time!

Confronting Another Parent In Defense Of Your Child

Let’s face it, we all get defensive with our own kids. Our natural response would look to justify and understand our child’s behavior. If the communication from the other parent came in the form as a text or email it is so difficult to understand their tone and feelings when writing it. You may think you are writing something positive or adding a joke to keep it light but the person on the other end might not take it that way.

Kid’s First Aid Kits

A couple years back I crafted these cute little kits for the girls in my troop. We were planning and preparing for a camping trip and earning our Brownie First Aid badge. These are perfect for GS but also any little kid who likes to feel a little independence. Lets be real, what kid doesn't like playing with band aids?

When Siblings Fight

I'm not usually one of those Moms that gets excited for back to school. I love the time I have together with my kids and I'm trying to take it all in and what time they have left being young. This summer was a little... well... we will call it different.

Cookie Party Cruise on Lake Michigan and Swaps!!

This year my oldest daughter worked her butt off to reach the 500 goal selling cookie boxes. We have a fairly large troop and another Girl Scout in the house that made for extra obstacles this year. She had to share her friends and family sales with her younger sister. She did a ton of cookie booth and went selling door to door. She pushed!

American Girl: Summer Camp, Friends for Life Movie!

Have you seen it?

American Girl came out with a new movie! Summer Camp, Friends for Life! I was so excited to watch this with my girls. We've watched all of the other American Girl movies but this one in particular touched our hearts as we love CAMP! Summer Camp would make the perfect movie night for your Girl Scout troop!  It's full of summer fun, mystery, and making friends! I see an outdoor movie night on the deck with the troop in the near future!
